DRGW Heritage unit leaving Horicon
Author: bnsfsd70

Hi, I got this off of the Illinirail list today, and in no way vouch for its accuracy. Either way, sounds like an interesting move. From Council Bluffs, would it probably head down to KC and over to Denver on the KP, or get there some other way? Thanks, Jeff

A little birdie (and a very reliable birdie at that!) just told me that
the WSOR is supposed to deliver the Rio Grande heritage unit to the UP
on Friday, June 9. Supposed to depart Butler Saturday on SBUCB-10.
Consist is a UP unit leading the DRGW and 3 Biz Cars, the Kenefick
and 2 others. Schedule is - - -

1200 dp Butler
1215 Mitchell
1315 Waukegan
1400 Proviso
1700 Clinton
2100 Boone

Of course there is no guarantee the train won't use the New Line at the
last minute, so listen closely to the scanner.

It's gonna have a tarp on it just to ruin your shot so don't take time off from work....unless UP comes to their senses...not likely I know....

Can't wait to see what they came up with for a paint scheme. Somehow I just don't think you can improve on D&RGW's paint scheme. I just wonder if they might have gone back to the Aspen gold and silver type of scheme and somehow put it on a hood unit. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I saw a beautiful HO model of an AC4400CW in the classic one stripe O&S and it looked wonderful! Compared to the older black with yellow striping, this one would have been a no brainer on hood units. Oh well, at least we had soemthing that said Rio Grande.

The Yahoo Group I got my info from called the train "SCBDN" or something like that, Special, Council Bluffs, IA to Denver, CO. Special denotes a train not regularly scheduled. It might be with some coaches. I have seen some movement in the Heritage shopes over the past couple days. Thier track mobile has been shunting cars around a bit.

Can we get UP to take the tarp off of this one..... and BNSF to put one on all of theirs?

Sure. You'd just have to pay BNSF a per tarp charge, plus a fuel surcharge.

: )
I with you on that thought.

Regarding the unvieling of the D&RG unit, I heard it was
going to be June 17th. That leaves one tarp available
until mid July when UP will need it back for C&NW.
