UP 1995 CNW Heritage Inagural Wisconsin Run
Author: kschmidt626

Greetings,

I got lucky today and caught the UP 1995 and CNW 8646 at Butler Yard preparing to head west on the Adams Sub for the CNW Heritage units first run into Wisconsin.

The shots below were taken in Butler Yard

Here are some more shots from Butler Yard in Northwest Milwaukee, WI

Shot #1 - Here is a trio of power including a former CNW SD40-2 and an unpatched Southern Pacific unit. This power is for the Oak Creek/Wisconsin Electric coal train
Shot #2 - Here the CNW duo is waiting for a fresh crew on the main at Butler Yard
Shot #3 - UP 9447 leads an eastbound empty ballast train, this train had to clear before UP 1995 could depart.

Few more shots from Adams Sub.

Shot #1 - UP 1995 leads CNW 8646, smoking nicely around the curve near Silver Spring Road just north of Butler Yard
Shot #2 - The Duo is westbound at Marcy Road about 3 miles west of Butler
Shot #3 - East of Merton, WI at Hwy E

Very interesting, the C&NW unit gets paraded around in daylight, with other CNW power yet, while the RG unit still gets the night run and is 400 miles form the only other RG unit. Is UP still punishing RG fans for a reason.

Not whinning, just wondering out LOUD!!

KK
Still sure of TP opening only when I see a train at the summit of the pass.

Sounds a bit like whining to me, but... It is probably not on purpose, but there are probably more former CNW personel in the proper places to arrange events like this than former DRGW folks. Remember, these units were not created for the sole purpose of pleasing railfans. They are rolling tributes to the railroads, and most importantly, the employees which made the predecessors of UP great railroads.

ahh, that answers my question...I missed this train, apparently it got out of Butler earlier than I anticipated...oh well..

I was at S Beaver Dam at around 1430, apparently it got by me, he must not have had opposition as all was quiet on the radio..

i'll have to catch it on the flip

thanks for sharing the shots

A shot under the coal tower at Clyman would be pretty darn sweet... - - JLH

Greetings,

The train left Butler about 12noon, had to wait for an eastbound empty ballast train. And the train pretty much had the railroad from Butler to Adams.

Regarding the Clyman Junction coaling tower, I had planned on getting that shot, but a missed turn onto a county highway, screwed that up. The train also must have sped up quite a bit after the overhead shot where he was going about 10mph.

I know, I always get hopelessly screwed up in my directions around Clyman. I don't know why, it just seems like I am always entering town from a different direction than I think I am. You did a better job of chasing the train there than I could, even though I have been there 7 or 8 times I could not even do that well. I wonder if anybody was at the coal tower for that... -- -- JLH

Thanks,

Yes I missed the turn onto Highway J in Clyman Junction. Then I had to run way north and doubleback into town. Its not the easiest place to find. Should have planned ahead a bit better I guess

Yeah! I'd love to see it come into the mine myself.
But I'm somewhat doubtful that they'll use it in the PRB, as UP seldom uses the other SD70ACe's for coal.
