Western Railroad Discussion > Original purchase price for UP Centennial???Date: 08/17/10 18:29 Original purchase price for UP Centennial??? Author: zephyrus Anyone know how much the UP paid per locomotive for the second order of DDA40Xs?
Thanks! Z Date: 08/17/10 20:01 Re: Original purchase price for UP Centennial??? Author: SCL1517 You're not getting much luck with an answer, and I can't give you one either, but I'm going to guess around $575,000, based on the fact that SP bought DD35's for $393,000 with trade in's, and the DD40AX came along six years later and included a cab and a whole lot of new technology. An SP SD45 cost $293,000 in 1967. DD35/SD45 pricing info from Strapac's SP Compedium, volume 2.

Page 17 says the starting price was $523,312, add to this prepaid freight charges. The book says after changes, final charges for the later units were $551,168 for the Union Pacific DDA40X Hope this helps. Date: 08/23/10 10:35 Re: Original purchase price for UP Centennial??? Author: zephyrus EXCELLENT! Thank you! Exactly what I needed.
