No New Paint for NWP's Cotton Belt GP40-2?
Author: shed47

BUGX7632, a GP40-2 built as SSW7632 in 1979, entered Alstom's Mare Island(Vallejo), CA shop last September for overhaul and a proposed repaint into scarlet and gray to join GP9 1922 on the "new" Northwestern Pacific. The locomotive is seen in three views this morning outside Alstom's shop still in old paint with questions as to whether that repaint will occur. New white dashed reflective frame stripes have been applied and it seems unlikely this would have been done if a repaint was imminent. A new Softrail AEI tag has also been bolted to the frame.

Any information as to whether its transfer to the NWP is still on? The arrival of a leased Railpower genset on the NWP along with the 1922 gives the road two serviceable units when only one will be needed to maintain operations.

I thought rust was NWP's paint scheme?

The 7632 is seen outside Alstom's shop on Mare Island this morning(awaiting movement to the mainland?). The final photo shows the geep last September at the UP-CFNR interchange in Suisun-Fairfield, CA en route to the island. Pretty much identical externally except for the lack of frame striping and no horn.

The thing is such a mutt anyway, it's got half the Cannon catalog bolted to it.

Does Alstom have a CARB approved painting facility at this shop? I'm wondering if they are just doing the mechanical work, and are going to contract out the painting to another contractor.

NWP GP9 1922 was repainted at Alstom Mare Island.

Maybe they're testing the new genset they got from Railpower. They could consider acquiring EMD ECO rebuilds or NRE gensets (I guess they're the best gensets out there)...
