Entire ISCLB, Las Vegas Strip
Author: cchan006

To keep the intermodal (and especially piggyback) foamers happy, here's a video showing the entire ISCLB, which I chased from Sloan (south of Las Vegas) to Afton Canyon. I actually filmed the entire train at Sloan, too, but chose Afton Canyon since I was standing closer to the train there. Note the string of baretables near (but not at) the end of the train.

I added a bonus clip of a manifest train running in front of the Vegas Strip, which I recorded the next day. I stumbled onto it while doing non-railfan activities, but lucky for me, I had just turned on the scanner and heard the crew tone up the dispatcher: "UP 5811 West, at Las Vegas..." There have been many "didn't have a camera with me" incidents here on TO, but I wasn't going to make that mistake this time.

It had 120+ cars, including a set of empty well cars somewhere in the middle of the train (edited out due to length). Could have been MNPWC, MSCWC, or something else. The size suggests North Platte, but it did make a stop at Arden Yard, so MSCWC? The edited clip is about 2:20 in length.

That's all folks.

Thanks for posting the strip shot! Love that lighting reflecting off of the Trump hotel.

I would guess the MNPWC, due to corn syrup and farm equipment, most likely loaded in the midwest. Also the lack of any ECXX dirty dirt cars, if you didn't edit them out. Looks like you filmed that second part from the Rio Suites parking structure. We've spent a lot of money at Rio Suites, as well as a lot of train-watching time! Thanks for the videos

Two thoughts about the videos... 1- The clip from Afton illustrates why a westbound coming out of Afton Canyon in the afternoon is one of my all time favorite spots to shoot. You can't beat the canyon wall behind the train as a back drop. 2- I'm guessing the second clip was from a parking garage (as was stated in the above post). Did the casino security give you any problems?

Both are nice videos, thanks!

That was great! Thanks very much for showing the whole train. Both had interesting cars, freight, and scenic backdrops.

I know Vegas well, and I am fairly certain it was not done from a casino or a garage. It looks to me like he's either set up on Dean Martin Drive, or maybe on the elevated portion of the Rio's weird little access road (I think it's called Hotel Rio Drive or something like that).

Charles--what's the scoop?

Nice video!

Very nice video, deserving on a VOTD selection. And
it was nice to see the John Deere tractors, and the
corn syrup, most likely, cars from this area in the
train. But, man, that power was DIRTY!!!!

It was shot from the parking garage at the Rio. The view from the top level is pretty nice.

well I was gonna watch your video of a long manifest train in the west at Las Vegas, then you say you 'edited out' some empty intermodal cars that would have given it more length. I like long trains, and we have many of them in the Mid Atlantic region. NS recently ran 113 multilevels UP Horseshoe Curve, 2+ miles.

I suppose I could have posted 2 separate videos, the 2nd one showing the entire MNPWC, and I did record the entire train (about 5 minutes and 20 seconds long). Had I caught the train moving faster, I probably wouldn't have edited it short.

To answer coaststarlight99, I did shoot from Rio's parking garage. I didn't shoot from the top level, because I wanted to pan my camera AND have the Strip in the background throughout. I didn't have problems with security, but I hadn't eaten dinner yet, so had I been challenged, I would have told him or her that I was watching trains before dinner (I ended up eating at Caesar's Palace instead, oh well)

I've also shot from the other side in late morning light, and put the Rio as a background behind the train (MWCRO) but I don't remember posting that video here on TO.
