Western Railroad Discussion > 2012 Texas Turkey Shoot (a day early)Date: 11/22/12 20:01 2012 Texas Turkey Shoot (a day early) Author: nomosantafe When I lived in Cleveland (1993 - 1998), every Thanksgiving, the Forest City Chapter of the Railroad Enthusiasts would meet at Bob's Big Boy for breakfast and a morning of foaming at Berea Tower (I think they still do). We called it the "Turkey Shoot".
In honor of that tradition, in 2005, I started my own version called the Texas Turkey Shoot and posted pictures here on Trainorders. I had to work 1st shift this year (and we were quite busy between Vancouver & Seattle), so I was limited in what I could shoot. After work I took a quick spin around Fort Worth, but there wasn’t much going on, so no pictures from today. I didn’t do it last year (2011), so I decided to revive the old tradition a day early. I did go out yesterday and shot a UP grain train on the Wichita Falls Sub. Here’s a few of the pictures I got. I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. Here are the links to the previous year’s Thanksgiving posts. 2005 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,1044681,1044691#msg-1044691 2006 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,1287080,1287080#msg-1287080 2007 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,1542232,1542831#msg-1542831 2008 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,1813883,1813892#msg-1813892 2009 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2065220,2065228#msg-2065228 2010 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,2329696,2329728#msg-2329728 2011 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,2620467,2620467#msg-2620467 Nomosantafe Fort Worth, Texas “Where the West Begins” 1. Taken just west of Dallas on Wednesday. Also for fun, the Dallas County Courthouse, also known as "Old Red" Date: 11/23/12 07:51 Re: 2012 Texas Turkey Shoot (a day early) part 6 Author: Wurli1938 Quite a contrast to the modern glass building at the right. Court House is beautiful

Court House is beautiful I look for that old building every time I go to Dallas, to see if it's still standing. Like depots, many of those old Court Houses were torn down over the years & replaced with ugly 50's & 60's style "modern" structures. Lots of beautiful old stone Court Houses still stand here in Kansas. The native stone Douglas County Court House here in Lawrence just had an exterior renovation & looks beautiful.
