Big train through Dunsmuir this morning
Author: photobob

A hundred car train of Richardson Hopper cars came through Dunsmuir this morning heading south. Three units on the point another four in the middle and a lone CP unit bringing up the rear. It is shown here crossing Castle Creek with Castle Crags in the background.

Nice shots. (I'm from the right coast - what are Richardson hoppers?)

Not sure what's shipping from Canada these days, maybe Grain, maybe Soda Ash. Suppose Google'ing on 'Richardson covered hoppers' would bring up Bob's photo.

No, these are not Sid Richardson cars. Richardson was the name of a grain company in Canada. It was known as Pioneer Grain. There rural elevators were wood and they were painted orange with yellow trim and roofs.

It was a loaded Grain train GMETPX-14 (Grain-Eastport, ID-Pixley, CA)

Great catch with all the lead engines facing forward!
Last time there was a CP rear DPU facing backwards on a Grain train, it led North on the empties!
