Chris Date: 04/17/14 14:29 Re: UP 949 & CNW 411 to NCTM's "Streamliners at Spencer Author: UPDetector Is UP 949 scheduled for St.Louis to make it's way East to North Carolina?

John Crisanti Longmont, CO Date: 04/17/14 15:31 Re: UP 949 & CNW 411 to NCTM's "Streamliners at Spencer Author: truxtrax It more than likely won't happen, but two nice additions from the far west would
be SP 6051 from Sacramento and Doyle's PA1 NKP 190! Larry Dodgion Wilsonville, OR Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/17/14 15:31 by truxtrax. For the moment, I am planning on going to Spencer again, I am just hanging out waiting to see what gas prices do! Also, don't forget the Amtrak display train is to be in Cheyenne May 17 and 18, and its next scheduled stop after that is Spencer, I wonder if 949 might lead that east out of Cheyenne? - - JLH

Too bad we can't get the Royal Gorge to pony up a pair. Anybody have a line to the KCS? I would call and put in a request. Posted from Android Date: 04/17/14 17:49 Re: UP 949 & CNW 411 to NCTM's "Streamliners at Spencer Author: sd24b Hmm.. no 9911A

Posted from Mobile Safari Date: 04/18/14 08:33 Re: UP 949 & CNW 411 to NCTM's "Streamliners at Spencer Author: NebraskaZephyr Keep in mind NO ONE from the owning organizations is allowed to announce which locomotives are attending. Part of the lease agreement with NCTM (as I understand it, for legal reasons Spencer is short-term leasing the attending locos on paper) is ONLY NCTM can announce and publicize participating locos.
It would appear they are doling out the news in small, regular intervals as the event nears, which is absolutely the smartest way to do it to get repeated coverage in the mainstream media. Remember they will need a HUGE walk-up gate from the non-railfan public to make this event a real moneymaker. So, even if someone on TO knew of a yet-to-be announced loco going to Spencer, they couldn't tell 'ya, because then they'd have to kill 'ya.... I also agree on the 9911a, that is a sleek looking train.

http://www.nctrans.org/Streamliners-At-Spencer--May-29---June-1,-2014/April-2014/-Silver-Pilot--Joins-Line-Up-for-Streamliners.aspx 'Silver Pilot' Joins Line Up for Streamliners Spencer, NC--One of the most famous and iconic diesel locomotives ever built, the stainless steel Burlington Route E5 No. 9911a “Silver Pilot” from the collection of the Illinois Railway Museum, will join the parade of historic locomotives at the North Carolina Transportation Museum’s Streamliners at Spencer festival, May 29-June 1. The 1940 E5 was one of 11 cab units of its type built in 1940 and is the only one remaining in the world. All were owned by the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy, also known as the Burlington Route, or subsidiaries. Union, Ill.-based Illinois Railway Museum often pairs the locomotive with the stainless steel Nebraska Zephyr trainset, which will not appear at the festival. |
