Western Railroad Discussion > Afton Canyon, CA ActionDate: 10/14/14 11:41 Afton Canyon, CA Action Author: zchcsse I was part of the T.O. crew that recently spent some time in Afton Canyon, CA along Union Pacific's Cima Subdivision between Yermo, CA and Las Vegas, NV.
The first day that I was there a mere 4 trains passed through all day, only three of which I was able to catch on video, and they are included on this clip. I had never been to Afton before, and found it to be quite a rugged, beautiful place! TRAIN 1: The first train of the day wasn't until 11am-ish and was the ISCLB heading west over the Mojave River at the east end of the canyon. TRAIN 2: ICSLAR, a repo train of container chassis, heads west, deep within the canyon. TRAIN 3: As gjc and I were leaving for the day, we caught a westbound KG1LAC in nice evening light from the road crossing at Basin. The third train was in a spectacular part of the canyon.

I'm surprised you didn't see a ZCIG1 or MWCNP. > TRAIN 1: The first train of the day wasn't until > 11am-ish and was the ISCLB heading west over the > Mojave River at the east end of the canyon... Note the UPS trailers. I always thought the ISCLB was a hot train until someone told me they were UPS empty repos. > -Tom Date: 10/14/14 12:15 Re: Afton Canyon, CA Action Author: zchcsse mapboy Wrote:

It met the ICSLAR at Dunn, and when it was pulling out of the siding it lost communication with its DP and was stuck on the Main ALLLLLLLLLL afternoon! When they finally got it backed off the main and into the siding gjc and I had to go. We got to Basin and the ZCIG1 came through which was the train we saw but missed catching on video. It got a roll-by at Crucero which was the KG1LAC which we waited for. Date: 10/14/14 16:42 Re: Afton Canyon, CA Action Author: Cajon92 Great hanging out with you this weekend, Tom. Great video!
