Special NS Coal Train in Alliance Neb
Author: bnsf70mac

Heard that there was is special Norfolk Southern coal train sitting in Alliance Nebraska. What is special is the train cars all have electric brakes on them. The motive power consist of a new Gevo, business car, then another NS unit. Hoping to get pictures later today. When I find out what mine it is headed to I will report it.

The ECP trains are great when they work and a nightmare when something is wrong.

All the new NS ACe's and ES's come with that electric brake option now, little box on the front and rear of the engines with a cable that gets plugged in... I hear you get instant braking and it does its job well

Think this train is buried in BNSF'S Argentine yard in KC. Saw it there this morning but couldn't get close for a picture. Wonder where it's going?

Also. I have noted lots of NS AC units on BNSF coal trains headed South on the Fort Scott sub.

A significant number of PRB coal trains go to the Atlanta area / Georgia Power. Is KC usually on that route?

Yes, KC is (usually) on the route but they don't go through Argentine. They come down the St. Joe sub from Lincoln and go to the Ft.Scott sub after passing through Murray Yard.

Have been getting lots of Georgia a Power trains on K-Line into St. Louis. MHS and MHK trains, but no NS power on them.
