Western Railroad Discussion > Another visit to the Ship Mountain area of the Needles Sub. Pt. 3Date: 04/24/15 16:46 Another visit to the Ship Mountain area of the Needles Sub. Pt. 3 Author: syscom3 Heres the final pictures from Ship Mountain.
Picture 1: Another stack train heads up the valley. I took these near the base of the North Wedge. A different vantage point in that I got lined up with the curves. Picture 2: An intermodal passes the final part of the "s" curve. Picture 3: Wider angle of view of it with Marble Mountain in the background. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/24/15 18:19 by syscom3. Date: 04/24/15 16:53 Re: Another visit to the Ship Mountain area of the Needles Sub. P Author: syscom3 Picture 4: Continuing up the valley with the Clipper Mountains as a backdrop.
Picture 5: It takes a curve and heads up hill towards Danby Station (which you can see on the middle right near the boundry between the horizon and ground). Picture 6: This was where "Siam" was located. A non descript siding and encampment that once served the nearby mines that has been completely obliterated with no trace left. A century ago, there was a couple of buildings and some water tanks. Now nothing. Not even the concrete foundations remain. That's all from Ship Mountains. Tomorrow I will post some from Ash Hill North. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/24/15 18:20 by syscom3. Date: 04/24/15 17:58 Re: Another visit to the Ship Mountain area of the Needles Sub. P Author: Margaret_SP_fan Thanks for the pix! Man, is that area ever desolate!
I lived in the desert as a child, so it got in my blood, and calls to me. But the Mojave Desert looks like a jungle, compared to where I lived, as where I lived was nothing but sand and some mesas -- and very rare oases. (It still amazes me that there is enough water to support as many plants as I see in your photos.) Somehow, to me, the Mojave Desert has a kind of bleak beauty that appeals to me. Theres a lot of wild flowers in bloom, but they rarely clump together.
The Summer monsoons brings a couple inches of rain to most places. But thats it. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 04/24/15 18:27 by syscom3.
