What is the Prime Mover(s) status on the 4010?  I understood at one time, that only one Maybach was available to power her, but that both power trucks and another Voith had been located.
Any later updates appreciated, and thank you for the post.

Only the rear Maybach is in being considered for operation for a number of reasons, mainly serious damage to the front engine and the lack of a front transmission.  We did acquire 2 power trucks from France although one of them has only 2 gear boxes.  It will be a source of spare parts and eventually, a display piece.  As far as the Voith transmission is concerned, and as far as we know, there is only one other transmission in the world remotely like the one we have and it is in no shape to ever operate, plus it is mechanically different in several important ways.  So, our goal is still operation with the rear Maybach and Voith.  We recently purchased replacement cardan shafts from Germany and bought a replacement rubber piece for the rear engine's resilient coupling.  If you care to have a peek at the latest work, you can check our Facebook page (just search for Southern Pacific 9010) or our web site (same search).

Thanks, Howard, for the info!  You and your crew are
doing and have done a great job on the 9010.  That
9010 is one interesting liocomotive.  SO different from
the diesel-electrics I am used to.

Good luck with all the humongus amount of work
you-all still have left to do.

Howard is a damn genius, I don't see anyone else tackling that level of mechanical restoration!
If the unit needs more grunt you could always stick A Deutz V8 and a hydrostatic drive to turn the
front gearbox set, wouldn't be totally prototypical but at least you'd have a German diesel and
sorta the same type of drive.

No. Howard has mastered levitation recently and is just showing off. :-)
