Western Railroad Discussion > A Little Thanksgiving HumorDate: 11/26/15 12:30 A Little Thanksgiving Humor Author: SN711 Happy Thanksgiving to ALL, but especially to the Railroaders out there, without whom this wesite would not have a purpose.
Here is a little Thanksgiving Humor. I have posted this before a few years ago, but it seems appropriate to repost it again today. From March 10, 2011, we have a BNSF westbound autorack train at Glen Frazier, CA approaching a flock of unsuspecting birds. Despite the fact that they all took flight at the last second, they all suscesffully flew across the path of the train toward the right. The wild birds can fly pretty well, although slowly. The only problem is that they tend to fly at windshield height. Gary Date: 11/26/15 12:39 Re: A Little Thanksgiving Humor Author: miralomarail What a feast Turkey and Pumpkin

Date: 11/26/15 20:21 Re: A Little Thanksgiving Humor Author: Westbound Wonder if these wild turkeys might be descendants of those birds that were brought in during the drought in 1978. Their purpose (as natural predators) was to kill and eat the rattlesnakes that had begun to grow in large numbers in western Contra Costa County.

You can find wild bands of turkeys all over Centrsl and Western Contra Costa County. They were very plentiful in 2011 / 2012, but the drought has helped cut down on their numbers, but they still persist. At one time you could find a different flock at each place along the BNSF where I liked to shoot photos. This was my only opportunity to get them in the photo with the train.

Thanks so much for the thanksgiving humor. Turkey and pumpkin -- LOL! (I never knew there were wild turkeys anywhere in the Bay area -- and I have lived here for many years.) Westbound -- Thankx for the info aboutb why these turkeys are living in the East Bay. I never heard there was a problem with rattlesnakes in Contra Costa before. UPNW2-1083 --- GROANNN..... VERY vlever! Date: 11/26/15 23:14 Re: A Little Thanksgiving Humor Author: NS19K The wild turkey. One of America's greatest conservation success stories. Not native to California but introduced there and they have thrived. Eastern,Rio Grande, and Merriams subspecies are all present in the state.
