My thoughts exactly.  I am hoping the money would go to keeping the place up in appearance and cleanliness ...

They have a donation box at the viewing shed in Folkston.  I gladly give when I'm there.  It's a wonderful safe place to railfan.  The whole town is your photo platform and the locals are very welcoming.

It's just a whimsical piece of silliness.  Con, I guarantee, would love it.

Agreed. Truly a poignant post.

We should all be so lucky to have that opportunity.

I would be honored to put a donation in that fare box should I have the opportunity.

I can't comment further without getting political about the USA following the downfall of every other political empire in history.

Doesnt look like a bad toll to me, a quarter or two and good to go!

You attract more fly's with honey than vinegar, and this way is vinegar!

I would be more inclined to donate when suggested than when forced.  There are billions of places to see trains.  I would go elsewhere!

How about installing a pay toilet? I remember lots of those in railroad depots, Greyhound terminals, gas stations and other public buildings. Is there a historical society that is dedicated to the preservation of pay toilet door mechanisms? Oh, and it isn't even April Fools Day!

I recall those pay toilets as well. In California back in the 1970s, then secretary of state March Fong Eu crusaded against them, arguing that they discriminated against women because the urinals were free.

I remember seeing vending machines at various British railway stations selling "Platform Tickets" to allow "Rail Enthusiasts" and "Train Spotters" the privilege of being on the platforms trackside for photography, etc.

If it meant legally being allowed on a platform without being harassed by authorities, I'd pay for that ticket!
