There's a real saga for this train. I'll add what I know as an edit. Gerry

From listening to the radio conversations, here's what I learned: L341 had trouble (I didn't hear the details) getting out of Baltimore this morning, so it was running a few hours late. As already reported, a truck knocked down the south crossing gate protecting #2 Main and #4 Track at Maple Ave., Brunswick, MD. L341 couldn't stop in time and ran over it (pictures of maintainers repairing the gate soon), probably pushing it aside. Fortunately, the truck wasn't hit by the train.

In West Virginia, the West Cumbo signals were defaulting to stop. Maintainers temporarily repaired them briefly; but, as L341 approached the Burke St. signal in Martinsburg, it dropped to red. The train stopped with the #1309 at the station (pictures soon). At this point the lead unit's (SD40-2 #8870) radio, which had been shaky, totally failed and the engineer used the radio in the second unit (C40-8 #7583) to talk with the BB dispatcher. L341 departed Martinsburg at 10:48 a.m.

Great pictures. I just find this absolutely amazing. Somehow I expect to see Rivarossi stamped on the bottom of that front engine running gear.

1309 appears to be getting ahead of itself in these photos. Will be nice to see it put back together.

This is all unbelievable! So, will she still belong to the B&O museum, or has she changed ownership?

I only wish 1218 could join the articulated revival.

Actually, 1x3x0x9=0

So, there's nothing? Well then, since Nothing is the English rendering or description of Zen, and everybody knows that Nothing is sacred.

So, by definition, the 1309 is sacred!

Happy to put yer minds at ease...

The thought crossed our mind, lol.

I'll second the applause on sharing these
historic images! Wow - an MOFC (Mallet on
Flat Car) - you don't see that too often!
Interesting how well the fit was.

Regarding ownership - I wondered that as
well. Long term lease or purchase?

Maybe in a few years, we'll see a CSX
management that will allow #1309 to pay
a live visit back to Baltimore.

/Mitch

I believe the WMSRHS called it a 'transfer', so I believe that would be a transfer of ownership or donation.
