One Dirty Girl (More Thomas and Percy)
Author: ddavies

Normally the best pics of the trains are gotten away from the station area, but this year there were some problems. At Esbenshade Road crossing, the farmer has planted a narrow row of corn that completely blocks the view. At Cherry Hill, the view of the regular train passing the picnic grounds is blocked by a string of freight cars on the siding. :-(

Both Thomas and Percy have a mouth that will open and close during their journey, along with eyes that go back and forth.

Its a shame Percy had to be a dummy. That Alco switcher pushing on the rear looks like it is basically the right shape, and perhaps could have been covered to be a real engine, though not the right type. Of course it probably would have looked bad to have Percy be larger than Thomas.)

Strasburg has an Alco?

I'm getting from all these threads that Thomas can handle his train unassisted? Is that the case?

For the length of the trip and the grade - yes. But I'd wonder. Could Thomas handle that length and weight of train by himself the entire way from Leaman Place, if asked?

Thomas could handle the train all the way. Probably not much speed. Pretty hefty weight on drivers and they are small. I just don't think Strasburg wants to put that wear and tear on the engine. Why???? Short trip means more trips which means more riders which means more $$$$.

And Thomas does not have a front coupler, so he would not be able to pull his train backward, then run around. Caboose leading is a pretty slow trip and would probably mess up the times meeting the regular train.

To use British terminology, the crew of a steam locomotive is a "driver" and a "stoker".
