Steam & Excursion > But where and whenDate: 02/19/17 14:05 But where and when Author: Ardenwood I dug these up. I know that it is Nickel Plate765 and the place was somewhere in the East of the Rockies. I see some fall colors but I do not know what year. Any help is much appreciated. They were all taken during the same trip I think.

#4 is Binghamton, NY. on the Erie. I would assume most of the others are somewhere on the EL east or west of Binghamton, NY Thanks for sharing!! Edited 2 time(s). According to the book Steam's Camelot by Jim Wrinn the NS ran several excursions out of Knoxville in October 1982. I would say this is one of those and perhaps some of the others are around east Tennessee with those excursions.

I see some fall colors but I do not know what year. Agree a couple of these are Knoxville, TN, and the Southern Railway auxiliary tender and cars mean it's 1982, when NS leased 765 to substitute for 2716. The last photo, will Bill Purdie in the cab, is probably Asheville, NC. 765 operated a pair of trips from Knoxville to Asheville, NC on Oct. 9-10. Agreed - I was fooled by the buildings on the left, which look very similar to the ones in Binghamton. The bridge in the distance has a resemblence to Chenango Street bridge, but it isn't right either. |
