few Santa Fe matched sets . . .
Author: 3rdswitch

. .
top: back in May '73 a matched quartet of Santa Fe GP30's headed east through Daggett, CA on Santa Fe's Needles District.
middle: in August '75 a matched quartet of Santa Fe GP38's were leading a train out of Temple, TX crossing the MKT just south of town.
bottom: in August '96 in another slide found in the boxes a fairly rare pair of Santa Fe SD39's (they only had twenty and they seldom saw the east end of the system) led westbound Conrail train ELSF (Elkhart-Santa Fe) into South Bend, IN.

Joe, the numbers of the SD39's indicate they had been
rebuilt, and by this time, were usually found in yard
service, Argentine and Barstow being the prime locations.
However, they would occasionally escape such mundane duty
for a jaunt across the main to odd places, which is what
I'm sure you caught here. I have caught these engines
in such service, and it lasted until after the BNSF
merger, when one of the first repaints headed an eastbound
manifest through Bucklin, MO, for my camera.

And, I don't think I'm the only one who wishes he had your
rejects. Please, keep them coming.

Shot #1 knocks me out! I don't think I've ever seen more than 2 Santa Fe GP-30's together before!

Then you were never on the Coast Lines!

Look at Cajon Pass pictures from the 70's and 80's. You could see them mixed with the GP35's in groups up to 8 or so.
