Nostalgia & History > A little Niland action

October 2003, UP 2771 (Ex-SP SD40M-2 made from an SDP45 carbody) leads a manifest east under the signal bridge at Niland on the Yuma Subdivision.
I haven't been that way in a while, but I hear the signal bridge is gone, and 2771 as an NREX unit was scrapped earlier this year by Metro East Industries in East Saint Louis. The image on the negative is a little fuzzy from the worn-out camera that was itself replaced a year or so later. Time rolls on and the changes come with it.
