Nostalgia & History > Marceline MO loses what's left of passenger platforms..Date: 10/23/03 08:35 Marceline MO loses what's left of passenger platforms.. Author: chilli BNSF has a form B track restriction in effect for this morning as the demolition and removal of the remaining passenger train platforms in front of the Marceline MO depot occurs.
Amtrak's only rural stop on the route of Numbers 3 and 4 is La Plata, MO. The Marceline Depot has been turned into a Walt Disney / Railroad / Town History Museum, and is definetly worth the visit, and admission charge. The last time a passenger train stopped at Marceline officially was back in Sept 2001 when a BNSF passenger special operated round-trip from KC to Marceline and return in honor of Walt Disney's Anniversary Celebration. Marceline was Disney's childhood home, and where he really got interested in trains, particularly the ATSF. Of, course, Amtrak 3 and 4 occasionally make a stop at Marceline to have paramedics meet the train for on-board health concerns, detrain unruly passengers into local police custody, and allow the engr only head end crew to copy a track restriction while stopped. |
