Rails Across America

I just ran across this a few minutes ago. It looks pretty good, until I hit the multiplayer part. If I read it correctly you can only play on a LAN, not even over the internet. Hopefully the AI will be a bit better than in RR Tycoon 2.

Hm. They'd have to work extra-hard to make it /not/ work over the internet. I gotta check this out...

You were right, from their website:
"Multiplayer currently works only over a LAN, not through a modem connection."

Man, I hope that's not vaporware (I've never heard of that publsiher or any of their games, although I'm not much of a strategy war-gamer).

It looks very cool. It'll eventually be playable via the internet; it also says on their site that the demo will have 4 people max. and be played through Gamespy.

That looks really cool. Good catch on finding that one!

http://www.strategyfirst.com/ is marketing the game. AFAIK, Strategy First is a European company who finds interesting projects like this from small developers, then publishes them. I have a number of Strategy First titles, and have yet to be dissapointed.

The screen graphics, options, etc.. look very similar to TD2.

Paul,

What is "TD2 - The Second Century"?

Rob,

Oops!...my mistake. I regularly play "Railroad Tycoon", and Railroad Tycoon - The Second Century".

I also enjoy playing TD2 (Train Dispatcher 2). I wrote 2 or 3 of the simulations for TD2 using the "Track Builder" program. I have not purchased "Train Dispatcher 3" yet, which I hear contains many improvements.

I'm teething to p/u a copy of MSTS in a few weeks...

Paul
