Date: 01/19/12 07:00 Re: Dashing through the Snow Author: hoggerdoug BC Rail was all "dark territory", couple of videos here of approaching switches at Colebank siding. There were a few signals at various locations governing some power and spring switches.
First one is southbound approaching the north switch at Colebank @ 40 mph. Second is approaching the south switch Colebank. Third is going northbound approaching the mill at Dunkly. It almost seems a little creepy to be sneaking through the night in a snowstorm like that. In some cases you can't see the track at all, and forward visibility is very limited. That must feel weird to be moving forward in those conditions. Date: 03/03/13 06:09 Re: Dashing through the Snow Author: cabman I bet that could get hypnotic after a short time. I know it does in a car. Crew must have slept well after that experience.

It must be quite tough on the nerves though: with that poor visibility and not having the ability to "swerve" if you discover a big nasty.

I was very surprised at the visibility issue during the snow storm. I had thought that there would be much more distance. Seems like no reaction time at all. |
