Mad Dog Chronicles # 162 Track Charts (NWP)
Author: mdo

Here are more pages from my NWP Track Book. I have started with the page which describes the symbols used, sort of the definitions page. If you worked for the SP in operations or in engineering anytime after about 1950 you knew these symbols by heart.

The pages that I have shown start at Schellville and go east toward Ignacio and then on to Novato. These pages have ten miles of track to the page. Again, I have included the type written notes which I think are Charlie Neal's summary of all of the previous wisdom of former NWP Division Engineers from the earlier days, written in 1971. Any hand written notes on the chart pages are mine.

Thanks Mike. Any notes on Tiburon, the track to Sausalito?

No notes or charts south of mp 14.3 Detour That was the end of the line in the 1980s

It seems that the practice was to delete any pages covering abandoned lines.

Any idea when they stopped running on this section? This is the section that the commuter train people think of when they see 'NWP'.

Last Trip

December, 1971. Last trip to Sausalito was taking a retire SP boxcar and caboose to that chain that used freight cars for restaurants in the 70s. Power: SW1500 and BWC with Hy Fowler on board. SF Chronicle railfan writer Carl Notle wrote a story about it.

Victoria Station I think was the restaurant chain.
