RBBB trains to pass near MP 305 about 12:15pm..........
Author: rbx551985

I am getting messages from people on both Ringling' trains that, as of 11:00am EDT, the two trains are about to pass each other (within minutes of this posting AT 11am) in or somewhere in the vicinity of Linwood Yard, N.C. on Norfolk Southern.......... if anyone's out and about, please post some images of this rare event!  UPDATE:  Blue Unit and Red Unit are both moving now, both northbound on NS in that area..... no word on their hoped-for meet, but about 600 people on the 2 trains (300+ per train) are anticipating on FILMING the meet, if it happens.

At 11:10am the 2 trains still hadn't passed, however a live-stream video from the Blue Unit over on FB shows them at nearly 55mph, then slowing to pass MOW vehicle behind a hi-rail truck going the other way..... RED Unit is at M.P. 320 as of 11:11am; no word on Blue show's Milepost, but they are both moving.....

I'm still watching the live feed from aboard the Blue Unit, and LOTS of railfans are out along the RR.........

RED UNIT was near Milepost 310 as of 11:30; Blue Unit just passed Milepost 325 at the same time.........

To all NS fans along this line:  both trains have stopped:  Red near mile post 305 for a CREWCHANGE (they might be in the siding there for at least an hour, according to onboard personnel) and Blue along Linwood Yard.  WHAT MILE POST is Linwood Yard at along the mainline; that's to determine how close the 2 trains are:  the people aboard the 2 trains are hoping to FILM each other should they pass, but they aren't from the region and don't know the mile posts on that NS line........

Blue show departed Linwood area (near MP 325, according to onboard viewing), and is rolling north; Red show is said to be STOPPED in a siding to the left of the mainline near MP 305.... it shouldn't be long now, at all, before Blue passes Red... and another day of history-making on America's railroads will be made.....

Unfortunately I'm at work and can't get any visuals, but the south end of Linwood yard is the MP 328/327 area, the north end is MP 323. The numbers on the MP markers DECREASE as you go north. Both trains are NB, one to Greensboro, NC, the other to Raleigh, so they will not pass one another unless one overtakes the other for whatever reason. MP 305 is just north of Thomasville, so they're likely stopped for a meet rather than a crew change. Any crew changes would be handled on the main at Linwood. Amtrak 74 will be through the area around 1PM if on time, Amtrak 75 around 2PM. Both of these are likely to hold up any traffic including the circus trains.
Just as info, NS 047 (zero47) going to Raleigh, 048 to Greensboro. Once in Greensboro, 047 will take the H-line east to Raleigh.
Also, no sidings on this line. Several miles of double track, then several miles of single, then double again, etc....

NS freight # 165 is ahead of the Blue Unit; they will pass Red Unit first, then the Blue Unit follows, from what we are hearing from the 2 Circus Trains.

I'm not sure where they park the circus trains in Pomona yard (Greensboro), but the Raleigh train must pass Pomona in order to get to the H-line, so they may overtake one another a second time.

Blue is rolling by MP 313.8.... a talking defect detector gave the location ... via radio scanners on the Blue Unit..... Red is stopped south of MP 305 or thereabouts; they say they'er 3 miles apart and closing........ Blue rolling by in a few moments.

MEET OCCURRED AT 12:40pm EDT
Author: rbx551985

Live stream video on Facebook .... Blue rolled by Red at less than trackspeed; hundreds in the two trains' vestibules waving, cheering, filming.... history is made, indeed.  Thanks NS, and RBBB.  Folks: these are the two LONGEST passenger trains in history, soon to go to the history books in another way.  This was an awesome meet, near Thomasville, NC.

Many people on both trains can do this; the first one, yesterday, was from Blue Unit's SHOW ELECTRICIAN Brad Collins; the second one -- following closely -- was from long-time favorite Red Unit photographer (who's had MANY pics posted here on TO.COM), NIKKI ROBINSON, who is a Red Unit train mechanic.
