Model Railroading > 1/87 scale SD45XDate: 07/26/15 00:26 1/87 scale SD45X Author: SantaFeRuss To model an HO SD45X, what would be a good frame to use? Possibly an Athearn SD45-2 or SDP45? The SD45 shell should be a good starting point. Proto or Athearn. Maybe a Kato shell. Any thouhts?

http://www.pbase.com/tracktime/sd45x_elizabeth_allen&page=all According to that, she used an SD50 frame. Date: 07/26/15 07:02 Re: 1/87 scale SD45X Author: Betsy I'd suggest using a SD45T-2. Same frame, drive, and at least the walkway deck.

Elizabeth, I checked out your SD45X from the link Stottman provided, and your work is really outstanding. I should only hope to aspire one day to even 1/2 of your level of modeling! Liz, do you operate your models? SantaFeRuss Date: 07/26/15 19:54 Re: 1/87 scale SD45X Author: SD45X Isn't the X the same length as the SDP45? I thought the T-2 was shorter. But it does have the HTC trucks already.

ALl the models are operable, though I only get the chance once or twice a year, and usually at the La Mesa layout in San Diego. Here's a couple links to some photos of mine and others models on that amazing layout. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,3707257,3709339#msg-3709339 http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,3051691,3051691#msg-3051691 For the record, the SDP45, SD45X, SD40T-2 and SD45T-2 are all the same frame. The Althearn SD45T-2 has a more accurate frame than the SD40T-2, and the walkway deck is separate, so it's a good starting point for building a SD45X. Elizabeth |
