Word came down that the D&RGW stuff had to be cancelled because Amtrak had some crew manpower issues at the DEN and SLC crew bases. Too bad. I believe it would have been the first passenger train over the Cane Creek Branch. This is supposedly the last Explorers trip operated by High Iron Travel. A well-deserved "tip of the hat" goes to Clark Johnson and Nona Hill. For several decades, the two of them operated never-to-be-repeated rare mileage trips over track spanning from the Northwest Territories in Canada to dual-gauge mileage at the Mexico-Guatemala border --- and a lot of great stuff in between those two extremities. Much of this track has since been abandoned. As the late Paul Morrisey once said, "Clark has pulled more rabbits out of his hat than any other railfan trip organizer I know!" I concur. Thank you, Clark and Nona! CA_Sou_MA_Agent Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 09/02/13 23:35 by CA_Sou_MA_Agent. |
