Eastern Railroad Discussion > SCL 2024 - Restored and operating!Date: 02/07/16 20:31 SCL 2024 - Restored and operating! Author: Rathole For the last several weeks, former SCL SD45 # 2024 (privately owned) has been residing at Southern Appalachia Railway Museum in Oak Ridge, TN. Prior to being sent to Oak Ridge, the engine was painted in the basic SCL paint scheme (no numbers or letters) by Railway Service Contractors in Kansas City. SARM's mechanical dept went over the engine and got it up and running and it made a couple of test runs on freight on the short line trackage over which SARM operates. Numerous SARM members, with the help of the ACL/SAL Historical Society and a few other individuals, went through a painstaking process of doing diligent research and then having numbers and letters made to fit the original SCL specs. This past weekend, several SARM members and friends of the museum got to work and applied the numbers, lettering and even the SCL's "Pulling For You!" slogan. After the lettering was complete, a impromptu "test run" was made which ended up being an unscheduled working freight train, much to the photographers delight. Since I was running the engine, I only got a couple of photo ops, but have added a photo of the freight run taken by SARM Member Mark Ragan. While this engine is a little fuel hungry and won't see regular service on SARM's excursion trains this summer, it may on occasion make a freight run and will be used on occasion by SARM on excursions.
