Eastern Railroad Discussion > coal train to delawareDate: 02/08/16 06:37 coal train to delaware Author: MdRailfan Does the Indian River power plant in Delaware still receive coal shipments. I had heard it was converted to natural gas. The reason I ask is because I saw a loaded coal train head north on the NEC from Perryville Md. Sunday and was wondering. If not, then where might this train be heading? Thank you for any info.

What was the date of the last move prior to this one? Yes, only the most modern of the 4 units at IR comes online. Two units had been idle, then a consent agreement with DENREC shut down the third in late 2013. Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 02/08/16 07:49 by ChessieSystem. Spell check may have changed your intended message. There was some criticism when the Delaware City refinery came on line about relaxation of some pollution etc deadlines there. Perhaps Indian River got a similar extension? Posted from Android Date: 02/08/16 14:21 Re: coal train to delaware Author: Out_Of_Service Lackawanna484 Wrote:

Thank you for any info. General Mills and another customer in Dover are powered by coal, at least the last time i was down there they were .... Edited 2 time(s). I thought there was one coal train a week, maybe less. There was a time in the Conrail years when it was planned to be one unit train a day to IR but it never reached that level. I did not know two units were shut down. Indian River is on the water but does not have barge facilities for water delivery. Why is his slanted now? A coal train going north at AMTK has to be an Indian River train. Edgemoor coverted a decade ago.
