Daylight on the xBCR Lillooet Sub.
Author: BCR4619

This past Sunday I set out with plans to meet up with 3 fellow photographers in the Lytton, BC area for a day of following the CN and CP, after a 04:30 wake up call I hit the road just after 5am with plans to meet a friend and carpool up, unfortunately for him his alarm didn't go off so I continued on my way to wads Lytton where I shot my first AC44CWM yarding their train in Boston Bar on the CN.

I arrived in Lytton shortly before 9am where I met up with another friend who proposed a better idea than staying in the canyon, he got called to work a 570 Rescue which was supposed to die on hours at Glenn Fraser on the CN Lillooet Sub, we had a few problems with this as spotty cell service meant our other party we were waiting for coming from Lillooet to Lytton would have to rely on us spotting him on the road to flag him down! Hah, anyway 15 minutes out of Lytton we spotted him and got him to turn around, once in Lillooet we went over to the lookout to catch RMR's Reforest to Gold Rush train skirting the final miles of the Squamish Sub seen int he last two photos.

4. After receiving more track on the Lillooet Sub the RMR is seen here crossing the Fraser River.

5. Crossing the highway approaching the slow at Fountain

6. Our last shot of the RMR departing Glenfraser, in order to follow such a train you much follow it with the best thing Toyota can provide!

With nothing more than a texted set of directions we made our way to the look-out over top Moran, all I can say is wow......

After the Work order center telling 570 to yard their train and tie it down because there were no crews on duty 570 heard from the Northbound crew in the yard telling them they sold swap off at the station and the NB crew would tie their train down and take the power north to WL light.... sounds like this operation is a well oiled machine!

On my way back home I caught two trains in Lytton, BC

Thanks for looking!

Fantastic pictures!!!! Thanks for posting! Truly one of my favorite routes!

Since RMR is only operating "Gold Leaf" and "Silver Leaf" why have two old "Red Leaf" coaches in between the low level "Silver Leaf" car? Or at least it looks to be the old "Red Leaf" cars? Are these cars just for crew, or can they be occupied by passengers looking to "stretch" out? Or are the cars re-purposed in any way? Just curious!

RMR has dumped "Red Leaf" service for "Silver Leaf" with the wrap around windows on a single level coach. I presume silver and gold produce more money than the red and gold, even though there were more red coaches in supply than silver. I have no doubt RMR has it all figured out to maximize their highest end revenue!!!

Thank you all very much!

As for the RMR coaches, the first one behind the generator car is the 5704 which we have used for the Polar Express at the WCRA in Squamish, BC for extra capacity and it is a strict 'Red Leaf' that I believe is used as a crew lounge. I was trying to figure out what the other red leaf car is between the Silver Leaf and Gold Leaf service and what I was told by a friend is its more than likely a lounge for the silver leaf passengers while the lounge for the gold leaf passengers are under the done cars.

I have often wondered how popular this route is but with two gold leaf coaches that were packed I guess its going pretty good. The return trip from Jasper to North Vancouver never made it past Birkin due to the derailment on Wednesday that sent cars into Gates Lake, RMR brought the train back up to Lillooet where it sat to at least today as they buss ed passengers, I don't know if the train will head back North to Jasper today or not.

Didn't RMR do away with Red Leaf as a class of service?

Great pictures !!  Thanks for posting.  BTW, looks like the lead RMR unit has an air conditioner on the cab roof, it's about time.  Doug

Yes they have, however they are still around either being converted or in this case use for on-board crew

A great day's work in fantastic settings, and some good exposures in some spotty light, as well. Nice mountain-goating up the hill sides at Fountain as well. Spectacular!
