Western Railroad Discussion > 'Miles' of train at Onaga, KSDate: 11/21/12 18:09 'Miles' of train at Onaga, KS Author: santafe199 Yesterday I posted a thread showing a very long train ("UP 5501 at first light") which was ID'd as an M-NPKC. I assume that means North Platte-Kansas City,
which further leads me to think this train is a shuttle for overflow traffic out of Bailey yard. It had a DP unit cut in about 30 cars from the rear end. It took so long going by me I almost had time to run out and get a pizza... ;^) It got to digging, and sure enough I tangled with another one of these long behemoths back in May of 2011 at Onaga, KS. Here are those shots from the Kansas hwy 16 overpass: 1. & 2. UP 8408 leading in a couple of telephoto angles. 3. UP 8623 cut in really deep in the train. (all photos taken May 29, 2011) Thanks for looking! Lance Garrels santafe199 Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/21/12 18:10 by santafe199. I'd guess the train was close to 10,000 feet long, if that helps. And thank you for the Thanksgiving sentiment & the very same to you & all the rest of the TO gang! The train can sometimes have a second section. Charlie MP 53 on the BNSF Topeka Sub Date: 11/21/12 20:37 Re: 'Miles' of train at Onaga, KS Author: wpjones DynamicBrake Wrote:

I have several at that location somewhere in my collection of photos Steve Date: 11/21/12 22:11 Re: 'Miles' of train at Onaga, KS Author: lilwes That train is a regular in the mornings. If you are out east of Grantville it seems as if it goes from horizon to horizon.
