Chasing UP 1983 to Denver
Author: es44fan

After seeing UP 1982 a few days ago, I assumed I wouldn’t be seeing any heritage units for a while. But I was wrong. On Tuesday (3 days after I saw 1982), UP 1983 led the MRONY into Denver while on 10 MPH slow orders the whole way. The chase was on!!

1: UP 1983 rounds the curve at Crescent preparing to meet a westbound coal train.
2: UP 1983 approaching the crossing at Blue Mountain Road.
3: A video of UP 1983 on its way down the Moffat Sub.

4: A shot of just UP 1983 as it passes by me at Blue Mountain Road.
5: The only time 1983 was going faster than 10 MPH was when it passed me at Leyden.

Great series, and good catch with the colorful head end. You must have really been hustling to get the various shots, notwithstanding its 10 mph "speed."

Watching the video - you have to love general merchandise trains. Great verity of equipment.
Interesting that there isn't one boxcar in the whole train.
