Western Railroad Discussion > 5 UP GP40-2's all in a row on tonnage & UP on GWRDate: 03/25/15 20:16 5 UP GP40-2's all in a row on tonnage & UP on GWR Author: highgreengraphics Lots of retro stuff in Fort Collins, CO today, the 3 BN Cascade Green BNSF SD40-2's reported in the earlier post by NH2006, and on another side of town and later, the UP LaSalle-Ft. Collins-LaSalle Local LYGO2 inexplicably had five small and old GP40-2's pulling it, instead of the larger road power that has been the norm for at least two years. Both ex- SP and D&RGW are represented, somehow fitting as both roads liked to pile on B-B units to power trains.
Photo 1 - Departing eastward still in Fort Collins, beginning the return to LaSalle as the restless sky is spitting snow flurries. From the front: UP 1425, ex-SP 5325; UP 1350, ex-D&RGW 3102; UP 1480, ex-SP 7110; UP 1344, ex-D&RGW 3096; UP 1396, ex-SP 7629. Photo 2 - East of Harmony departing Fort Collins. Many frac sand cars from Great Western Railway in Windsor, CO fill out the rear length of this outbound train. Photo 3 - But darn, NOW how do we get to the tire swing? Coupla mooore... Photo 5 - Two more big road motors tag along at the end, including a visitor from distant CSX, as the train passes through Timnath, CO. Happy its been years since I have seen 5 GP40's railfanning! === === = === JLH Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/25/15 20:30 by highgreengraphics. Looking at the rutted path to that tire swing makes me wonder how many trips were made to the swing. I like your composition on this photo. I enjoy rural coverage like this.
