SP 107 leading on a rare branchline move
Author: WrongWayMurphy

In the piney woods of East Texas is an old I&GN (MOP) branch from the mainline
at Overton to end of track at Henderson.

SP 107 was leading two ragtag UP jobs, pulling 96 empty GRR gons across the twisting an turning branch.

I had to wonder which was rarer, the 107 AC4400 on a bolted rail dead end branch
or the llama in the East Texas oilfield.  This oilfield was discovered
in the early 1930's and pumpjacks everywhere are still producing 80 years later.

Dad Joiner would be proud.

Who would have thought thirty years ago that an Southern Pacific painted locomotive on a branch line would be a rare thing.

Rails to spread?  Looks like welded rail on sound ties with good surface in those images.

NICE to see the SP 107 in action on a branch line amongst the pine trees.

A catch like yours would be my catch of the year... maybe for several years.

When this line was owned by the MP was it a mainline route to South Texas/Louisiana? There must be some heavy industry on this line to warrant such a long train.

Cool pictures. Still, I expected to SP business car 107, the Del Monte, leading a backup move.
