SP FP7A with #99 at Newhall St. May 1966, still carrying train numbers. The "B" unit appears to be 543 which I believe was a Cotton Belt Unit. The third unit is four digits but I cannot get it clear enough to read.

I kinda goofed and did not get the GP35 as well as I should.

Nice photo! Where is Newhall Street? #99 is a Northbound train between Los Angeles and San Francisco. How is it that the sun is full on the nose of the unit? Does the track run east/west at this location? Bud

Newhall St. and yard in the Northwest portion of San Jose. At that point the track actually does head to the Northwest. It is also in May so Daylight Savings was in effect.

T&NO.

It's an FP7, so it would have to be between 6446 and 6461 (less the 6453).

Look at the photo again, then read my answer again.

There were only two directions on the SP: Eastbound and Westbound. Since "all the oddballs go to San Francisco", to quote a rules examiner, and odd numbered things on the SP were Westbound, this made #99 a Westbound train. The SSW was a North-South railroad, but it was a separate company, thanks to Columbia University.
