Spectacular Day in Exshaw - Banff area
Author: Train611

Hi everyone.

July 29 around Calgary dawned without a cloud in the sky.
Having a day off I went west to the foothills and was able to catch a few trains on the CP Mainline.
Just driving to the mountains and spending time along the tracks resulted in a very peaceful day.
1. CP8859 heads up a short eastbound just east of the mountains at Ozada Siding.
2. CP8646 west heads up a westbound container train past Exshaw, along the Bow River.
3. At Banff (one of my favourite photo spots) CP9354 heads a 100 series "key" train west to west coast terminals. Horn and bell are going for bus passengers waiting at the station, and the crossing directly behind the photo guy.

If fellow TO'ers ever get to south western Alberta, there are many safe photo locations along the CP Main, and further north CN travels through Jasper and spectacular scenery.

And when the skies are clear....awesome country and photo ops.

Take care. thanks for looking.

Beautiful scenes, 611. What's behind the train in #2, a coal mine?

Are those all Canadian Tire domestic containers on the train in photo #3? I curious how the business and performance of Hunters 100 series trains are doing? Based on the thread above, it doesn't sound like the Vancouver-Chicago trains are doing well currently.

On the Laggan sub, I've seen trains with a lot of Canadian Tire containers (long blocks of them) but never the whole train!

The 100 series trains seem to be doing just fine through here. 198 seems a bit off its regular time but one a day is still fairly normal.

thanks for looking.

I have not seen a unit train of Canadian Tire containers, but they can send lots of containers out, east and west.
CP's Calgary intermodal yard at Shepard is right along side of the Canadian Tire Distribution Centre, which I believe serves Western Canada.

That was train 101 of that day, getting "key train" attention from the RTC's.

There were many more Can Tire containers on that train.

Lafarge loadout -

Note Lafarge's GP 10 used for shunting cars under the silo.

Still working there,
And they just upgraded much of their yard tracks.
Big construction going on there.
