Stack train question
Author: truxtrax

We all know that there are a number of highway carriers in the states
that are big into intermodal. Carriers like, JB Hunt, Schneider, CR England,
Swift and others. Has anybody seen these outfits containers on Canadian
intermodal? Are any of the Canadian trucking companies going to cans?

How about the Canadian LTL carriers? Do they have their own cans ?
Thanks

Hunt and Schneider containers through here on 148 and 149. But these trains originate/terminate in Chicago. Can't recall seeing any VerSpeeten Cartage or Caravan containers while in Canada.

Trans X is a major Canadian trucking (logistics) company I believe. I know they were (still are?) a huge user of CN with their own domestic containers. On another note, virtually all intermodal in Canada is now containers, almost no trailers are used except in the Montreal/Toronto corridors.

I had assumed that, like the truckload co's. here in the states
that most carriers in Canada would start buying their own cans
simply as a matter of economics, plus better control of usage.

Many of the containers in use in Canada are owned by retailers .,. Canadian Tire is a major container owner-operator.

Believe it or not, I've seen Canadian Tire containers
at warehouses here in Portland. They had been drayed
in and were backed into a dock in N Portland near UP's
Barnes Yard. I don't know if they were railed into town
or if they came by highway from Van. BC.

Back on July 12, 2014, I posted to the Eastern Board, a CN Q149 from Saturday, May 24, 2014, a few miles west of Battle Creek, Michigan. The train was 11500 feet long and almost entirely loads. Almost all of the loaded cars were double stacks.

Here is the link to it, if you want to see what the make up of Q149 here in Michigan looks like.
