The rail fans on the right of way are lucky the NS police were not around. I've seen the NS police get fans at that very spot. Jim Date: 08/15/14 09:33 Re: 3Way Meet at track speed from The Station Inn Author: boejoe Cool - temperature, too. I see that the railfans were all wearing light jackets!

LOL Date: 08/15/14 16:13 Re: 3Way Meet at track speed from The Station Inn Author: bert14 Got lucky for sure. I got my camera out two minutes before, when I saw so many folks waiting for the Amtrak. I thought it would make a neat pic of the folks waving as Amtrak went by.
Out of nowhere ( no radios turned on near me) Whamo, next thing ya know, it's a 3Way! What are the odds? Oh Well....Very cool temps this summer in Cresson. Tom reports there are no tomatoes locally because it has been so cool this summer. High was 58 yesterday & 60 today..in the 40's at night.....chilly! Date: 08/16/14 07:45 Re: 3Way Meet at track speed from The Station Inn Author: P Nice video!
The temperatures are shocking. 58 in August?! Please give me some more global warming. Date: 08/16/14 08:25 Re: 3Way Meet at track speed from The Station Inn Author: atsf121 Now that's a railroad video, what fantastic luck. Lots of freight, Amtrak, and four helpers pushing on that coal train make that one outstanding clip. Where exactly is this, I'm not familiar with this part of the country? Very well earned VOTD by the way.
Thanks, Nathan Date: 08/16/14 09:45 Re: 3Way Meet at track speed from The Station Inn Author: sp3663 Living in southwestern Pennsylvania I've grown weary of coal train after coal train. They hold no
interest for me now. When I see one I just go about my business as if it wasn't even passing by. Having said that, in the case of this great video, I'd have missed something I wished I hadn't. Guess I better get out of my coal train rut and start watching again! Wonder how fast those folks standing trackside would have been able to move if there had been some sort of mishap? If the NS police happened by they would have, at a minimum, been chased away. Date: 08/16/14 10:11 Re: 3Way Meet at track speed from The Station Inn Author: TheApostleGreen NICE Catch! Were there helpers on the WB intermodal?

Date: 08/16/14 14:34 Re: 3Way Meet at track speed from The Station Inn Author: spandfecerwin Nice video, although it is a coal train simply.
Regardless a question: There are bethgons and bottom dump cars mixed in this train. How is working unloading of this consist? Erwin from Austria Date: 08/16/14 16:15 Re: 3Way Meet at track speed from The Station Inn Author: keysubdiv Anyone know where the coal train would have been loaded.
Looks nice with 2 heaps in each car. twl Date: 08/16/14 16:18 Re: 3Way Meet at track speed from The Station Inn Author: keysubdiv do people even think before they go walking up to

Cresson is also just west of the world famous Horseshoe Curve. Maybe 5 miles. About 50 or so freights per day plus two Amtraks and numerous light helpers make the train movements closer to 70 per day. Three main tracks at this location. Date: 08/16/14 23:17 Re: 3Way Meet at track speed from The Station Inn Author: onblock The coal train was a 590 train which operates most days from the Mon Line in southwestern Pennsylvania to Baltimore for export, where all the cars are unloaded by a rotary car dumper. Most coal trains, whether made up of hopper cars or gondolas or a mixture of both, are unloaded this way; however, there are some consignees of unit coal trains seen on the Pittsburgh Line who must receive their coal in hoppers as they apparently do not have rotary dumpers. Also, NS helper sets based in Cresson and used in the Johnstown-Altoona area consist of pairs of SD40Es (rebuilt SD50s), thus this train has two helper sets (as is preferred on the heaviest trains) with each set having a crew of an engineman and a conductor.

I seen it many times from Johnstown to Tyrone. Date: 08/17/14 11:07 Re: 3Way Meet at track speed from The Station Inn Author: moltensulphur This area is also known as the "West Slope".
I recently spent three days at the Cassandra overlook (4 or 5 miles west of Cresson) and on the third day we did catch a three way meet. Date: 08/18/14 12:52 Re: 3Way Meet at track speed from The Station Inn Author: rbx551985 Wow, two older hopper cars are on that train.... CR 495014 at time index 00:32-00:35, and NW 6165 at time index 2:42. Those are become as rare as most other "fallen flag" cars these days!
