How common is it for a Metro North loco to work freight? Is it paying back horsepower hours somehow? Is it leased?

228 was photographed in Binghamton on CP on 9/17/14 so I'm guessing that the train in the Enola photo is NS 11R (aka 458 in CP-speak). It's not clear to me how it got to Binghamton, though. Possibly MN to CSX at Croton-Harmon to Selkirk Yd to CP Kenwood Yd to CP Saratoga to train 252 to Binghamton?

WRT paying back HP hours, AFAIK, there have been no sightings of NS Dash-9s hauling Metro North trains - they likely wouldn't fit in the Grand Central Terminal! ;-)

Could it have been on its way to Altoona for service or repair?

I'm told that the 228 has a big engine fire two weeks ago. Probably DIT, being sent back to Erie for repairs.

Thanks for info. Roundabout way to GE @ Erie. Maybe to NS @ Roanoke where they do their heavy GE work?
