Date: 01/08/14 10:01 Re: UP train derailment near Ogden Utah today Author: Western_Star Can't tell by the second photo if the units were mid train DPU or leaders.
Date: 01/08/14 10:07 Re: UP train derailment near Ogden Utah today Author: stevelv Another TV station said it was a rear ender but pictures look like it could be mid train since it looks like grain cars on each side of the power. More pics here

https://archive.sltrib.com/article.php?itype=CMSID&id=57367807 Based on the photos on the Tribune's page, it appears that the GSMITR 03 was rear ended by the GSSDPX 06. The GSMITR 03 had UP 6676 and UP 6658 on the head end and UP 5974 as the rear DPU. The GSSDPX 06 had UP 5844 and UP 7223 on the head end and UP 6336 as the rear DPU. That is UP 7223 laying on the conductor's side with the rear third of the locomotive wiped off above the frame. Both were loaded 14,000+ ton grain trains. Edited 1 time(s). It also appears to affect the western roads more than the eastern roads. What gives?

My wife just sent me the tweet from the reporter. In the first picture I thought it was just a simple derailment, but then in looking at the other photos I realized it was a collision. Not good, hope the crews are ok. Nathan Date: 01/08/14 12:23 Re: UP train derailment near Ogden Utah today Author: CA_Sou_MA_Agent NS19K Wrote:

Add to that the fact that there's been a tremendous number of experienced "old heads" retiring over the last few years and being replaced by inexperienced new people. Date: 01/08/14 12:27 Re: UP train derailment near Ogden Utah today Author: UPTRAIN While I can't deny there are people out there with a tentative grasp on the job and the responsibilities, I can name almost half dozen collisions over the past 2 years where everybody on the "offending" crew had 10+ years in.

The collision took place on main 2, at about MP 983. It appears that the lead WB train, grain, had two lead units, and 1 DPU at the rear. This train, likely stopped, was run into by a following WB grain train, which also had 2 lead units and one DPU at the end. The second train's second lead unit went over the side. These photos also show an EB stack train on main 1, above the wreck site. Date: 01/08/14 13:32 Re: UP train derailment near Ogden Utah today Author: lee_uintah One more photo of the crash site.
In the foreground is I-84, about 1 mile east of the junction with US-89 in Uintah. One lane of WB I-84 was closed. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/08/14 13:33 by lee_uintah. Date: 01/08/14 14:33 Rearender Author: Bob3985 Since most grain trains run 2+1 for power I see a rear ender here with the two trains. My prayers are with the crews.
