Western Railroad Discussion > S'cuse me, just passin' thru!Date: 01/02/20 08:25 S'cuse me, just passin' thru! Author: santafe199 …or: how I survived a dangerous UJO* attack :^)
1. & 2. BNSF 4408 is crewless in the siding, and will be overtaken by UP 7938 on a grain empty. The surprise UJO is northbound on Buckeye Avenue in Abilene, KS. The Eisenhower Center is off to the right. Photo date: March 21, 2016. It can happen to you, too! Lance Garrels santafe199 *…ok, ok! “UJO” stands for Unidentified Jogging Object. PS: Hey utwazoo, MP555 & callum_out: That's a smiley face I added up there. That means this is a parody thread, posted ONLY IN FUN... Date: 01/02/20 08:55 Re: S'cuse me, just passin' thru! Author: SouthWestRailCams Great Shots Lance and also love the storyline with the shots. Also, looks like the UJO is got some Unidentified Object in his ear canal to block out that Train Noise coming towards him! ;-)

I think it’s safe to say, the runner who was moving had less to fear than the person standing between the rails taking the photos.

OK.... since you seem to know everything there is about this series of photos just come on over/up/to Manhattan. I'll extend my arms and you can put the cuffs on me and make a citizens arrest. Because I was so criminally trespassing by standing on the sidewalk on the other side of Buckeye, reaching in with a telephoto lens shooting a train moving a restricted speed over 1/4 mile away. You're right, I was a huge ***-damned danger to the train, to myself and to the general safety & security of the ENTIRE universe in general. Yup, I risked everything on this series of photos, just so I could provide somebody a chance to pound on his chest and spew forth about trespassing. It must really suck having NOTHING else in life to live for... Let me know when you'll be in town to make your arrest... Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 01/02/20 10:28 by santafe199. If that train in the distance was actually stopped the ditch lights should be off, and the headlight should be on "dim". Besides with a modern day digital camera with "motor drive" there is no way to tell, in inches, how far that train in the distance has moved. Ken Date: 01/02/20 13:40 Re: S'cuse me, just passin' thru! Author: kenN I'm fairly new to TO, and before I joined I talked to several people about doing it. One of my good friends in Kansas City is a "lurker" meaning he watches TO posts but does not join. He said he couldn't justify spending the money just to hear people fight with each other. Now I see what he's talking about. Is that the kind of reputation we want this site to have? I'll sign this...I don't have to be anonymous. Ken Nagel

It depends on who you're asking, Ken. If you're asking that question of the majority (99+ %) of TO members who are the everyday decent railfans we've all known in our lives, the answer is the obvious NO. But then you don't even have to ask that same question of the gutless, nameless trolls who initiate this kind of crap in the first place. This is what they live for, and they don't have to worry about recrimination because they will never have the brass to sign real names to their diatribe. Keep in mind that age-old saying: "The squeaky wheel get the grease". On TO.com the noisy, mouthy trolls get the bulk of the attention because the VAST MAJORITY of decent & honorable railfan members prefer to sit completely silent, and will not stand in defense against such behavior. Puzzling, but so be it. On the other hand I will always defend myself against troll bullshit, and if I see one of my friends getting attacked my level of defense ratchets up a few notches. Railfanning is TOO good of a hobby to let trolls go unchallenged. And TO.com is way TOO good of a site to watch the B.S. win out... Lance Garrels Manhattan, KS Edited 1 time(s). It's really pretty cheap when you put it in perspective; a whole year of Trainorders for less than one month's phone bill, light bill, union dues or many other expenses that we all take as a matter of course. Yeah, there are a lot of idots here, but there's also a ton of great stuff to make up for it; just roll with it and enjoy what you like and laugh at all the stupid arguments. Lance, I laughed at your PS disclaimer at the end of the original message; looks like it wasn't enough to do the job though! Andy Date: 01/02/20 17:22 Re: S'cuse me, just passin' thru! Ken Nagel Hang in there Ken, there's a lot more good than bad, which hopefully you'll see! Date: 01/02/20 19:16 Re: S'cuse me, just passin' thru! Author: Valleyman I still stand behind my original comment. I have personally taken over 100,000 slides and still do to this day! I started shooting the WP and D&RGW back in the early eighties. I think I know what I’m talking about. The UP unit hasn’t moved an inch between the two shots. I’ve got 100 of slides of units sitting in yards with headlights and ditch lights on not turning a wheel.
Valleyman Date: 01/02/20 19:39 Re: S'cuse me, just passin' thru! Author: DonWinslow In regards to the UP engine moving, if ya look at the pole along side of the engine, the distance bewteen engine and pole is farther away than in the second shot. Bingo, Lance wins. It's moving.
