Lot's of cloak and dagger stuff hiding in those insidious black hopper like things. Must be evil in some way. Gonut Date: 11/04/25 19:41 Re: Herzog what is it? Author: SD45X Date: 11/04/25 19:54 Re: Herzog what is it? Author: pdt some sort of MPM/slot machine "maintenence vehicle." Im guessing its for tie loading/unloading. In order for herzog to be able to offer maintenance services at a cheaper price thn a RR ca do it themselves, they remote as much as possible. This "Maintenance vehicle" is probably run by 1 or 2 ppl.
Blanked out windows on a remote sd40 or sd60 nothing new. Date: 11/04/25 19:56 Re: Herzog what is it? Author: SD45X Windows not blanked out. Shuttered.
Date: 11/04/25 20:11 Re: Herzog what is it? Author: NPRocky I wonder whose locomotive that 217 used to be. I looks like there might be an AI engineer and maybe an AI conductor in there. They don't need windows!
Date: 11/04/25 20:37 Re: Herzog what is it? Author: PHall Windows covered to help sell the illusion that this is a piece of MOW equipment and not a locomotive. Because locomotives require a licensed engineer.

I just did a little Google searching for awhile, wound up with "Herzog automatic tie unloader" with videos and photos on YouTube and Facebook, Instagram, etc..that matched those black cars. Date: 11/04/25 22:04 Re: Herzog what is it? Author: MP555 BNSF loves Herzogs “high horsepower” MPMs….which is just an SD locomotive added to their regular power unit. I have seen them powering a ballast train following an
undercutter. I have seen them powering a rail train with their own RUM on the back. They took over tie distribution adding BNSF tie cars into their conventional MPM consist. And now we have the Automated Tie Unloader featuring the Cartopper 2.0. Not only have they eliminated the need for their own MOW employees to do the work, now they’re making progress on eliminating the need for work trains to supplement maintenance work. Why have System Rail and Tie Gangs when you can contract it out and not have to deal with or pay employees with all of their costs and problems. Date: 11/05/25 01:13 Re: Herzog what is it?
