The 9169 on the point would have taken the brunt of the collision, but 9169 was not retired because of this wreck and later became SP SD45T-2R 6772 and then DM&IR SD40T-3 401. No word on trailing locomotives being written off. > 8.what tunnel motor was destroyed back in aug 1975 ? Had to be an SD45T-2 as the first SD40T-2 was written off in 1980. It had to be scrapped. 2)Think this was SD9E #4307. Its main generator caught fire. 3)I couldn't remember this one. 4)I do remember this one. It was a detouring wb SP coal train on UP. EB UP ran a red signal; engineer was killed. Unit was indeed SP 7403. 5)I only had 9340, 7551, 7549, 8278 and 8317. Maybe those were the units scrapped on site; don't really remember. A HORRIBLE day in SP history. I was only a few miles away from where it happened... 6)Only remember it was a GP40-2. I believe KevinD is correct. 7)Unit was the 9210. A bad accident. The female lookout/ fireman on the helper was killed. 8)Brand new 9379, only five months old. Not 100% sure but I want to say that it was wrecked on the Rock Island between Dalhart and Liberal. AM |
