The flag is placed farther back than the rest of the GEVO's, so there was no room to add the "Building America" and logo in the usual place. Because of the placement difference, GE put the logos in front of the flag. Not sure if it was planned that way or if it was an accident.

if the building america and UP logo pickup the dirt before gets to the flag... Say that I'm out... <eg> Ac4400cwgevo Date: 10/29/05 18:52 Re: UP Building America slogan and U.S. flag Author: trails2rails Isn't the flag on this unit the same size as the C44AC's - and isn't it actually SMALLER on the rest of the GEVOs???
I thought that was the reason for this particular unit... Date: 10/29/05 19:13 Re: UP Building America slogan and U.S. flag Author: bnsfjth trails2rails Wrote:

I had originally typed that too, then I re-did my post because I wasn't completely sure on that. When I pulled up a photo of a standard GEVO paint job and compared it to a photo of the UP 5353, it appeared to me that the flags were the same size. It is a sure thing that the flag on the 5353 was placed about 2 doors farther towards the rear than a standard GEVO. I think this makes the flag look larger, and thus the rumors that the flag on the UP 5353 was the larger version. It is true that the flags on the UP GEVO's are smaller than the flags on the C44AC's and SD70M's. -Justin RapidsRail.com Date: 10/29/05 21:48 Re: UP Building America slogan and U.S. flag Author: trails2rails Interesting!!! Thanks for pointing this out...
There is another famous (infamous) GE paint shop graphic application error - the entire fleet of Conrail/GE LMS C40-8W's. They have two different sized logos and the large one was placed on the front and rear and the small one on the flanks. It is widely believed this was a mistake... Lou Date: 10/29/05 22:20 Re: UP Building America slogan and U.S. flag Author: redneckrailfan also notice that the Z stripe is up higher on the hood of the #5353 than the rest of the GEVO's. Its very noticeable on the radiator wings, as on the 5353 the bottom portion of the wing is yellow wheras on the rest of the ES44AC fleet the red stripe rides along the bottom edge of the wing.

Date: 10/30/05 01:38 Re: UP Building America slogan and U.S. flag Author: chris_wlkr I posted photos of the engine back in August which you can find at this link
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoPicture.aspx?id=47221 Justin had posted a link to my pics Sept 22 on this site. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,1003744,1003894#msg-1003894 I still think the decal set was taken from an SD70. ------------------------------------------------------- > Why do you say its a "one unit order" instead of > just an experiment by GE/UP? > > The railroad will order engines in a series. For example UP 500-550 and then UP 551-555. This engine was not part of a series. Meaning they ordered UP 5352 as the end of the series that proceeded it and likewise, UP 5354 started the next series. Making this a 1 unit order. That leads to the theory that they did not have a dedicated decal set for the engine, and therfore used a set that was available at the time. Neither UP 5352 nor UP 5354 have this variation of the Building America decal set on them. Chris http://www.CaliforniaTrains.com Date: 10/30/05 16:39 Re: UP 5353 sinlge order Author: espeeboy FYI, at the time of the first UP GEVO orders (February 2005), the UP5353 number slot was still occupied by an ex-SP GP40-2. This UP5353 (repainted from SP 7941 on 01.05.98) was renumbered to UP 1453 on 03.06.05. The UP5353 was delivered from GE in August 2005.
2005 UP GE C45ACCTE (ES44AC) Deliveries: 02/05 - UP 5354-5363, 5368, 5370-5377, 5380 03/05 - 5365, 5369, 5378, 5381-5399, 5402-5407, 5409-5416 04/05 - 5364, 5366, 5367, 5379, 5400, 5401, 5408, 5417-5427, 5429, 5431-5441, 5443, 5444, 5446-5448, 5453 05/05 - 5442, 5449-5452, 5454-5457, 5460, 5463-5477, 5483, 5484 06/05 - 5428, 5430, 5445, 5458, 5459, 5461, 5462, 5478-5482, 5485-5494, 5498-5513 07/05 - 5495-5497, 5514-5538, 5540-5542 08/05 - 5353, 5539, 5543-5553 Hope this helps... -Ryan aka "espeeboy" on the ex-WP Oakland Sub MP11.2 ~~~ chris_wlkr Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > TV-10 Wrote: > -------------------------------------------------- > ----- > > Why do you say its a "one unit order" instead > of > > just an experiment by GE/UP? > > > > This engine was not part of a series.
