Western Railroad Discussion > Texas Turkey Shoot - Happy ThanksgivingDate: 11/24/05 11:41 Texas Turkey Shoot - Happy Thanksgiving Author: nomosantafe Today, I revisited an old Thanksgiving tradition in my life.
I lived in Cleveland, OH from July 93 - August 98 and was a member of the Forest City Division of the Railroad Enthusiasts (RRE). The RRE is one of the oldest, if not THE oldest railfan group in the country. The Cleveland RRE group would meet on Thanksgiving morning (at daybreak) for breakfast and then hang out at Berea Tower until around noon and shoot pictures of the morning fleet of trains, thus the term "Turkey Shoot" I now live in the Fort Worth area, and today was the first annual "Texas Turkey Shoot". There wasn't a lot going on, but I did see several interesting lashups on the few trains I saw. The weather was cool (mid 60's) and overcast, not the crystal blue sky and 80+ degree temperature we had yesterday. With the radio on KHYI-FM, the 50,000 watt "Blowtorch of Twang", and the scanner tuned to the UP and BNSF channels I started out about 0730. Here's what I saw in the 3 hours I was out and about. I saw 2 consists right out of the 80s (or late 70s), UPs new Hybrid switchers, and an all Santa Fe consist with a warbonnet and an SD45-2 B unit I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. I might add that the BNSF train with the Red & Silver and the 45-B came off the Dublin Sub. I saw this train go behind the plant I work at in Stephenville Wednesday!
