Spring snow on the McCloud
Author: jbwest

The McCloud Railroad has gotten a lot of spring snow this year, and has had to struggle to keep the line open. The following pictures were taken over the past several weeks. The first picture is plowing the line at Curtis after an eastbound freight stalled in the snow previously that day. The second and third pictures are plowing the hill west of McCloud near the Ski Park Highway crossing. Operations continue despite the threat of abandonment of the Burney line. As I type this on April 15 the National Weather Service is forecasting another foot of snow this weekend! And it's supposed to be spring.

Your images do a good job in showing the struggle to keep the line open.

Hi John-

Yeah, I think I spotted you guys one day up on the ski park highway. Did you come up in the Jeep?

Wet, heavy snow is falling as I write this. McCloud is running the Dinner Train tonight.
