Western Railroad Discussion > Missouri Pacific reflectionsDate: 01/19/02 20:28 Missouri Pacific reflections Author: 3rdswitch I thought about a wherezit for this photo? This is a contractors work train on the Santa Fe's Lee Ranch Spur near Baca, NM, taken in June 1984. The Missouri Pacific actually no longer owned these U30C's, so I guess I cheated a little on the subject title, but, they were still fully lettered and numbered! I don't know the name of the company that built this spur for the Santa Fe. Perhaps someone out there can enlighten me?

To respond to your query with a guess as to who built the branch line, I'd GUESS (I emphasize the G-word, as I really don't know) the former Morrison-Knudsen Company of Boise, ID. Why? It was M-K that built Santa Fe's now famous 1958-60 Williams-Crookton line relocation, plus a number of other major rail line construction jobs before Bill Agee's non-managerial shannigans bankrupted that unfortunate company.
If M-K didn't perform the work, then I'd love to know who did, too. --Billio |
