Two SP SD45's Westbound, SLC

Two SP SD45's departed Salt Lake City at 3:00 p.m. this afternoon bound for ICTF, California. The lead motor, SP 8690 was followed by UP 2690, a patched SD45 in speed lettering.

No wonder the UP can't compete with the BNSF for intermodal business. Look at all the SP junk they put on their hot trains.

Those should both be MK rebuilt "SD40M-2's" with 16 cylinder engines,
dating from about 1993.
