Speed Image Contest
Author: webmaster

The contest has ended and we will be announcing the winners during the first week of November.

For two weeks beginning on October 15 and ending on October 28, we invite participants to submit images of railroading representing speed. When we speak of speed we are referring to images that show trains moving. What constitutes speed? It could be a blurred shot, it could be a dust cloud, it could include a cloud of heat and exhaust over the locomotive, it could even be a train grinding up grade slowly. The train has to be moving and we should be able to conclude that from viewing the image.

Each week we will choose 4 first place winners who will receive a one year web site membership, and 4 runner ups who will each receive 3 month web site memberships. We may add additional prizes if warranted. At the conclusion of the contest we will choose two grand prize winners who will each receive a check for $150.

Here is how it works. Starting October 15 you may post your speed related images to the appropriate discussion forums. On October 22 and October 29, we will choose a set of winners that will receive free web site memberships. At the conclusion of the contest we will select two grand prize winners from the previous winners who will each receive $150 cash. Photos can be taken anytime. They are not restricted to being captured during the period of the contest.

Week 1 of the contest: October 15 - October 21, Winners picked October 22, announced October 23
Week 2 of the contest: October 22 - October 28, Winners picked October 29, announced October 30

Grand Prizes announced the first week of November.

We understand that some members do not approve of our method of administering the contest. We have found that October is the slowest month for discussion on the web site and we use the contest as a tool to drum up discussions until things pick up in mid November.

We will accept entries from non members if they mail a CD Rom containing the images.
