Sadly, the story didn't mention much about the SLC's fleet of reefers. Started out with hundreds of surplus Railway Express Agency ice reefers in the late 60s, early 1970s,but today they've got a huge fleet of mechanicals largely still wearing their pre-SLC paint schemes of Santa Fe, BN(SF), UP(PFE) and Milwaukee Road. Quite a rolling museum. Used for shipping totaters

Thanks for the information. I had read th Trains article but did not get a good understanding of just how much tater shipping remains.

SLRG has been in Walsenburg in the the daylight a few times over the last 2 weeks. One Sunday late afternoon with 4 engines on the point and one on the rear. That was a day with a lot of snow and wind. Expect the pass can be a real challenge on some days.
