Western Railroad Discussion > Garden City ,KsDate: 05/28/02 21:20 Garden City ,Ks Author: blackvy Any rail action (E-W or N-S) thru southern Kansas, Dodge, Garden City and west to Colorado?
Thanks Doug Date: 05/28/02 21:35 Re: Garden City ,Ks Author: P Amtrak's SW Chief, twice daily, although e/b and w/b pass in the wee hours.
Otherwise, seemingly a lightly traveled line Date: 05/28/02 21:37 Re: Garden City ,Ks Author: CPB284 The main RR in this area is the BNSF La Junta Sub. Passes through Dodge and Garden and west into CO. Not the busiest ML, but it does see Amtrak at night, and a few other trains.
The Garden City Central (I think it is called) runs north from Garden City for a few miles. A good shortline is the Cimarron Valley RR. (former Santa Fe trackage) This RR runs SW from Dodge through Sublette and Satanta. The power is mostly (if not entirely) former Rio Grande GP-30s. South to Liberal is the UP Golden State Route and the Pratt Sub. Fairly busy route, lots of autos and intermodal for the most part. You can also see a few manifests and grain trains, also there is a coal train occasionally. East of Liberal is a large deck bridge over the Cimarron River (I use the term river loosely) that is known as the Samson of the Cimarron according to TRAINS magazine. |
